OORT Vision: Providing Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Humanity
Since 2023, artificial intelligence technologies such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini, and OpenAI Sora have had a profound impact on us. However, people have little understanding of how they collect and use data, and even the potential biases that may exist.

Imagine an artificial intelligence that is primarily trained on data from a specific group. This could unintentionally lead to AI favoritism, bias, or disadvantage towards certain groups when making decisions. To avoid this, it is crucial to use diverse data from different groups. This allows AI to be fair and inclusive.

As these technologies become increasingly indispensable in our lives, trust becomes crucial. As humans spend time together, trust is built over time by understanding each other's strengths in abilities, rather than in technology. To trust AI better, we should study how it works, ensure it uses unbiased data, and incorporate diverse perspectives in its design. This approach emphasizes transparency and diverse input, which are essential for making AI that everyone can rely on and benefit from.

In our pursuit of these advancements, OORT's goal is simple: to establish a trust-centric ecosystem that enables humans and AI to thrive together.

OORT Mission: Building a Cloud for Decentralized Artificial Intelligence
Founded in May 2021, OORT is a decentralized AI cloud platform. Our network leverages global resources from data centers to edge devices and has a blockchain-based proprietary verification layer. OORT offers a range of services, including data collection and labeling, data storage, and model training. Our goal is to help AI builders through a decentralized network and lay a foundation for a fairer and more efficient AI development for a better future.

In other words, OORT proposes an open and transparent approach to AI development, involving key stages such as data collection and labeling, model training, and fine-tuning. By involving the community in these stages, our aim is to make AI more understandable and foster collaboration from the beginning. Our goal is to democratize AI, make it more inclusive, and build trust through active participation from everyone.

Working Principles of Centralized Artificial Intelligence (CeAI)

Figure 1. Centralized Artificial Intelligence. All stages are fully controlled by centralized organizations and are perceived as black boxes by the public.
First, let's explore how centralized AI works (see Figure 1). Companies like OpenAI and Google operate their AI systems in a centralized manner, using their own data centers and undisclosed processes. Users have no knowledge of how each stage of AI development is conducted or how data is used to train and enhance these models.

Working Principles of Decentralized Artificial Intelligence (DeAI)

In contrast, OORT redefines each stage using blockchain technology, as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2. Decentralized Artificial Intelligence. Each stage is contributed by the community and transparent to the public.
Data Collection: Anyone, anywhere in the world can share their data using their own laptops or smartphones and be rewarded for sharing.

Data Preprocessing: People can use smartphones and computers to help process data, such as adding data labels for AI projects. Once the process is complete, the data is updated to the decentralized OORT cloud, and the identifier (hash) of the processed dataset is stored on the blockchain.

Data Model Design: Community members collaborate to create AI models that anyone can use and build upon, making innovation easier and more accessible to everyone.

Model Training and Fine-tuning: AI engineers can now connect to an underutilized global computing network with a fraction of the cost required to access services like AWS or Google Cloud. Importantly, training timestamps and datasets used for training are recorded on our blockchain, enhancing transparency and accountability.

Model Deployment: Unlike relying on large servers like AWS, AI application and software developers can now deploy models directly on devices such as smartphones and PCs. This allows users to use AI applications offline, ensuring the security and non-transmission of personal data to third parties. By leveraging the capabilities of their own devices, users can enjoy the flexibility and convenience of AI tools anytime, anywhere.

OORT Products
At OORT, we empower developers to build AI in a transparent, decentralized, and trustworthy manner. Unlike other isolated development systems, OORT products involve the entire community. This means that as we strive to push AI to new heights, everyone can actively participate rather than just being bystanders. We are committed to democratizing artificial intelligence, making its development reflect a wide range of perspectives. As of June 2024, OORT has served over 10,000 corporate and individual clients, including DELL, Lenovo Image, and Binance Smart Chain.

OORT Data Center

It assists AI projects by collecting and labeling data provided by the global OORT community. Blockchain technology is used to maintain clear and permanent records of each step in this process.

OORT Storage

Decentralized storage is achieved by combining global servers such as Seagate and Tencent Cloud with our own edge devices, Deimos. It functions similarly to Amazon AWS S3 but at a 60% lower cost.

OORT Computing

The integration of geographically distributed GPUs makes it cost-effective for AI model training and inference. It will be launched in 2024.

OORT's Decentralized Physical Infrastructure (DePin)

image

OORT's decentralized infrastructure is the foundation of its products. OORT's physical decentralized infrastructure (DePin) consists of two main components: geographically distributed physical nodes that provide storage and computing power, and the OORT Mainnet (Olympus Protocol) that connects and ensures the secure and reliable operation of these nodes.

Figure 3. OORT Architecture
Three Types of Physical Nodes
OORT's DePin system consists of three types of physical nodes:

Super Nodes: These are servers from OORT partners such as Seagate and Tencent Cloud. They handle tasks such as training AI models and storing large amounts of data.

Archive Nodes: These nodes from Filecoin and Arweave securely store data. They are primarily used for backing up AI datasets.

Edge Nodes: These are devices owned by users, such as OORT's "Deimos" edge device, laptops, and PCs. They handle tasks such as local data storage, data labeling, and running AI models for quick decision-making.

Olympus Protocol
The Olympus Protocol is OORT's proprietary blockchain technology that can be deployed by any interested party. The Yellow Paper provides detailed technical descriptions and performance. Olympus connects all DePin devices globally in OORT, ensuring that each node works transparently and optimally utilizes network resources in a decentralized manner using its specific Proof of Honesty (PoH) consensus algorithm.

Learn more about the Proof of Honesty consensus algorithm.

OORT Tokenomics

OORT has its own native utility token in its system. It can be used to pay for services, stake for rewards, and help community members make decisions.

Figure 4. OORT Tokenomics

Paying for OORT Products: You can use fiat currency via credit card to access OORT products. However, purchasing these products with OORT tokens always provides a discount.

Staking: You can stake OORT tokens in two ways:

People can put them into staking pools to earn rewards, such as DeFi, OORT Earn, and DEX liquidity pools.
People can delegate them to node providers through bonding pools (e.g., OORT Boost), where node providers use them as collateral for network commitments. People will receive a portion of mining rewards from the node providers.

Governance: In OORT, community members propose and make significant decisions such as fee settings and rule-making. For example, if you want to propose something, you need to deposit some tokens, which will be refunded if your proposal is approved; otherwise, the tokens will flow to node providers who actively support the network.

Competitive Advantages of OORT in the Decentralized AI Field
In the decentralized AI field, various projects focus on managing AI data, training AI models, and developing AI algorithms, among other aspects. Why does OORT stand out?
